3 ways the billionaire mindset can help us all succeed

I am not a millionaire (which is a major bummer), but I have learned a lot from a few who are. I recently binge-watched Undercover Billionaire, a show where three self-made entrepreneurs are dropped into different American cities without connections, prospects, or capital, and must create a million-dollar business within 90 days. After viewing their struggles and wins, I realized that a lot of their skills and strategies can help make us more successful, productive, and happy in our daily lives and professions.

You don’t have to be an entrepreneur to be entrepreneurial: Set goals and targets

The contestants on Undercover Billionaire had only 90 days to build a million-dollar business, so there was no time to waste. They set their goals early, defined them, and then every action that followed always had that endpoint in mind. They lived each moment with a sense of urgency and purpose.

Maybe your goal is to write a novel, spend more time with family, or save to go on a big vacation. Or perhaps you also dream about starting your own million-dollar business. No matter your endgame, the takeaway is the same: define that goal and then put a plan in place to get there.

Having trouble figuring out your goal? No worries! Reflect on something you’re passionate about and can’t live without doing. Just think about what gets you up in the morning. Maybe it’s paying off debt, earning that promotion, or switching things up to pursue your dream job.

Every goal needs a plan and a timeline. Each aspiring “Undercover Billionaire” made a list of daily targets that got them closer to their million-dollar goal. If you want to lose 25 pounds in six months, then go to the gym three times a week and eat more nutritional foods. If you’re writing your first novel this year, then tell yourself, “I need to draft at least one page a day.” Targets should be specific, focused, and actionable.

Build your network (and net worth)

Each entrepreneur on Undercover Billionaire worked extra hard to build relationships and connections. Without a network, they never would have found success. As one put it, “contacts make contracts.”

This skill is just as important in our own lives. It can feel overwhelming to network, so start small. Invite a colleague to lunch. Learn from someone new. Engage on LinkedIn or another social media platform. Exploring new perspectives and building relationships can make a huge difference in your professional—and personal—development.

Audienz has a Buddy Program where we pair new employees with a more seasoned employee. It’s a great opportunity to meet someone new and, most importantly, learn from one another.

Press on—no matter the challenges

The entrepreneurs on Undercover Billionaire hit a lot of walls, experienced intermittent failures, and suffered serious setbacks along the way. But each one of them managed to build a million-dollar business within 90 days. How? They persevered!

We all face a multitude of daily challenges, especially in our pandemic-stricken world. But what’s most important is how we keep showing up each day and moving forward.

What does success look like for you? Discovering that can be the key to unlocking the best version of yourself. Maybe it’s learning a new skill like computer programming, teaching a course, or starting a fitness program. Keep that goal in mind and stick to your plan by hitting your daily targets. And eventually, perhaps with a little help from your network and some persistence, you’ll get there. Maybe not in 90 days. But following these tips and tactics can definitely help launch you into your next great adventure!
